The town hall

The town hall in Chorzów (German: Königshütte ) dates from 1874 to 1876 and is located on the ring. The originally historicist building with neo-renaissance and mannerism elements was expanded from 1927 to 1930 and redesigned in a modern style. The building received a side wing and its 36.6 meter high tower.

The original building with a neo-renaissance facade and mansard roof was executed by the local master builder Daniel Grötschel. The Königshütte coat of arms and a clock were located above the portal.

The expansion and redesign from 1927 to 1930 were carried out according to plans by Karol Schayer and W. Eysmontt from Katowice. The redesign should represent a break with the previous German history of the city and become a symbol of the new political character of East Upper Silesia . In 1941 the building was increased by one floor. In the representation hall there are ornately designed windows with representations of mining and metallurgy, trade and industry.
