Blumenthal town hall

The Blumenthal town hall in Bremen - Blumenthal , Landrat-Christians-Straße 107, is one of the most important buildings in Bremen and is a listed building . The building was listed as a historical monument in Bremen in 1994 .

history

The Prussian community of Blumenthal, which was independent until November 1, 1939 , experienced an economic boom due to the Bremer Woll-Kämmerei (BWK) founded in 1884 , as a result of which the number of residents increased sharply. New tasks were assigned to the community and the incorporation of Lüssum, Rönnebeck and Bockhorn (1907/08) required an expansion of the administration. The community office with the community treasury, a school class and the registry office were housed in a small private house around 1900. In 1907 an office space was rented in the opposite house of a bakery. Since this no longer met the increased demands on the administration, it was decided under Friedrich Karl Kürten, Mayor of Blumenthal from 1907 to 1933, to build a new representative town hall.

The two-storey town hall with red stone views was built from 1908 to 1910 according to plans by the Bremen architects August Abbehusen and Otto Blendermann . The high hipped roof with the centrally arranged ridge turret with a clock and a tent roof and the two-storey historicizing gable above the entrance are formative . The curved gable shows echoes of the baroque and classicism as well as the then modern art nouveau . Inside, the stairs, doors and wall panels are made of oak. The Blumenthaler Sparkasse was given a separate entrance on the south side.

The Blumenthal local office has been located in the town hall since 1946 ; this is where the Blumenthal Advisory Board met . The job center was temporarily housed in the building. After he moved out at the end of 2015, it was mostly empty. After the local office moved to Landrat-Christians-Straße 99 A in 2016, alternatives are being sought for the use of the house.
