The Town Hall Halifax is the seat of city and regional management of Halifax ( Halifax Regional Municipality ). Since the merger on 1 April 1996 next to the city is Halifax and Dartmouth , Bedford and the district Halifax ( County of Halifax ) to the county. The City Hall building is located in downtown Halifax on the Grand Parade, a square that was previously used for military parades. The building was constructed between 1887 and 1890 and designed by Edward Elliot. It is one of the oldest and largest administrative buildings in Nova Scotia . The red sandstone town hall has a seven-story clock tower in the middle . The clock on the north side permanently shows the time 9:04 a.m. and reminds of the time of the Halifax explosion on December 6, 1917.
