Monument No. 3 on the list of architectural monuments in Rösrath

The hopesthal town hall is a listed building on Hauptstrasse 229 in Hoffnungsthal , a district of Rösrath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

The building was built in 1865 as a “new schoolhouse” with two classrooms, a teaching material room and a teacher's apartment on the top floor. With the rental income from another guest room, the coveted "Kaiser Wilhelm" picture was purchased in 1873. When the number of pupils rose rapidly in the second half of the 19th century and the children in Lüghausen also lost their school building due to fire, a new school building was built on Knipperbach, which today still houses the Hope Thaler primary school.

While the mayors of Rösrath worked in their residence until then - Mayor Franz Wilhelm Gammersbach from 1808 in Haus Steeg and from around 1830 in Haus Venauen , Robert Rohr in Schloss Eulenbroich and Franz Leyhausen in his Hoffnungsthaler residence - the building served as a from the 1880s public "Mayor's Office Volberg". The up-and-coming industry at the former "Hoffnungsthaler Hammer" then also coined the place name Hoffnungsthal and pushed the over 1000 year old name Volberg into the background, which led to some protests.

The "mayor's office", which was initially housed modestly in an adjoining building, became the main administrative seat of the municipality after the school moved to the new building on Knipperbach. In the wake of a everywhere noticeable economic upturn at the beginning of the 20th century, requests were made for a representative renovation. No less a person was commissioned than the well-known architect Hermann Eberhard Pflaume , who had previously rebuilt Eulenbroich Castle. After two years of construction, the building was inaugurated for the second time in 1913.

Building description

The building, which was built in the middle of the 19th century, was expanded in 1912–1913. It is a two-storey, plastered brick building with a mansard roof, a gable-crowned central projection and dormer windows. The six-axis eaves house has lattice windows with shutters, which are missing in the basement. The skylight of the door, which has not been preserved in its original form, is provided with a neo-baroque woodwork grille. The window walls on the ground floor are profiled.
