The local recreation area Ratzersdorfer See is an area in the St. Pölten district of Ratzersdorf . The area belonging to the St.Pöltner Seen-Erlebnis is only separated from the Viehofner lakes by the Traisen . The artificially created lake was created in the 1970s as a local recreation area.

history

Construction of the Ratzersdorfer See began in 1973 and, together with its surroundings, was planned as a local recreation center from the start. At the planning stage, the entire area comprised 25 hectares, 6 of which were made up of the lake. In 1980 the lake was dredged and the west side of the lake was designed, the east side and the campsite followed in the following years. Originally, an outdoor pool with swimming pools should have been built, but this was not implemented.

Recreational offer

In summer the lake is a popular bathing resort, it is the only designated bathing lake in St. Pölten in the national water management plan. It has bathing jetties, a footpath and cycle path all around, has a separate nudist area, a border with forest, various sports facilities such as beach volleyball courts and kiosks. Use is free of charge, only parking cars costs parking fee - as of July 2014.

There is a campsite, a fitness center and a leisure center with bowling , billiards and a Lasertron arena right on the lake . The Feldmühle nature trail is north of the lake .

Since 2006, a bicycle and pedestrian bridge has been running to the two Viehofner lakes to the west of the road - former gravel lakes , which have a floating jetty and an observation tower and which have received a nature conservation award.
