Predatory tree
This tree and its rootstock were brought in on the Isar near Dingolfing during renaturation work. Two stakes protect the trunk from being washed away.
Predatory trees are trees on rivers and lakes that are deliberately felled in such a way that they come to lie in the water as secured dead wood . Above all, they should promote young fish there and make a contribution to the revitalization or renaturation of the water. This method has been developed in Switzerland in the canton of Aargau since 1998 and is also used in other regions, for example in Bavaria and Westphalia .
The predatory trees are also artificially introduced into treeless stretches of water, attached to the bank in order to create small structures and promote sedimentation .
