Room (chess)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The space is at chess game by the 64 squares of the chessboard shown, on which the various figures (also forces referred to) meet each other during a game of chess. Space, together with power and time, form the three basic elements in chess.

The mastery of space and the resulting space advantage can be of strategic use if it also hampers the opposing pieces in their effectiveness. For example, it can be advantageous to have one or more pawns in the opponent's camp, provided they are supported by enough of your own pieces. Otherwise there is a risk that the pawns will be captured by the opponent's pieces. So it is not enough to just gain space, it must also be secured with sufficient material.
