Ravencoin is a peer-to-peer - block chain that handles the efficient creation and transfer of assets from one party to another.

history

Ravencoin is a spin-off from Bitcoin to version 0.15.99 and therefore uses the UTXO model of Bitcoin and was launched on January 3, 2018 in a fair way without an ICO, pre-mine or masternodes and was announced by Bruce Fenton on Twitter . The cryptocurrency was released on January 3, 2018.

KAWPOW

On May 6, 2020 at 6 p.m. UTC , a changeover from X16Rv2 to KawPoW was made. This conversion should help protect Ravencoin from ASIC miners. KawPow is comparable to ProgPow, which should have been used with Ethereum , but uses special parameters that are tailored to Ravencoin.

KawPow is the third algorithm that Ravencoin uses. The predecessors were X16R and X16Rv2.

According to the Ravencoin whitepaper , these changes are being made to enable graphics card users with 2GB graphics card memory to participate in the mining of the coin again.

Hack

On Friday, July 3, 2020, a Github submission caused a bug that gave the attacker access to 315 million RVNs. This is about $ 6.2 million at the current price. (As of July 8, 2020)

The vulnerability does not allow the theft of RVN or assets that are owned or controlled, but coinage created RVNs that shouldn't exist. Since these RVNs were listed on an exchange and traded, they are intermingled with other RVNs, and therefore any programmatic attempt to incinerate them with the assistance of the miners and the community would cause irreparable harm to innocent victims. In its current form, the burden has been shared among all RVN holders in relation to their RVN holdings in the form of inflation.

According to the developers at Ravencoin, the case has been handed over to the police.
