Ray Gilbert
Ray Gilbert (born September 5, 1912 in Hartford , Connecticut , † March 3, 1976 in Los Angeles ) was an American songwriter. He won an Oscar at the 1948 Academy Awards for the song Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah , which he wrote for Uncle Remus' Wonderland (1946) with composer Allie Wrubel .
Life
After finishing school, Ray Gilbert first wrote for Sophie Tucker , Harry Richman and Buddy Rogers . In 1939 he came to Hollywood , where he signed a contract with Walt Disney . During this time the song Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah was written for Uncle Remus' Wunderland, with which he received an Oscar and an ASCAP Award in 1948 . The song is used in various films to this day.
He also wrote several songs for the Disney films Three Caballeros (1944), Make Mine Music (1946), Music, Dance and Rhythm (1948), and The Adventures of Ichabod and Taddeus Toad (1949).
In 1962 he married the actress Janis Paige . His daughter is the actress Joanne Gilbert .
