Raymond Durand (born January 29, 1908 in Marseille , † October 30, 1989 ) was a French football player .

Club career

Durand was 17 years old when he was inducted into the first team of the southern French club Olympique Marseille in 1925 ; with this he reached the national cup final in 1927 and stood in this on the field, where he was able to secure the first title of his career thanks to a 3-0 win against US Quevilly . In the following years he remained loyal to the club and was still a member of the team when Marseille was able to secure participation in the first division of Division 1 , which began in 1932 , and thus advanced to become a professional club. In the first game of his team in the newly created highest league in the country against Olympique Lille Durand ran on September 11, 1932 and reached his professional debut in the 2-1 victory. In the course of the 1932/33 season, he completed all 18 games in the then two-track league, even if the team missed the championship final by finishing second.

However, he was not used when Marseille at the end of the season 1933/34 failed in the cup final; the following year, the club reached the final again, in which Durand was called up due to an injury to his teammate Riahi Rabih and won the second title of his career with the 3-0 win against Stade Rennes . The professional remained loyal to his club when, due to the war, the championship was only held unofficially during the 1939/40 season ; At the end of the season he was against Racing Paris for the third time in a cup final, but suffered a 1: 2 defeat. The then 32-year-old then ended his career and lived in isolation from football until his death in 1989. His son Albert Durand also took up the profession of football player.

National team

The player celebrated his debut for the French national team when he was called up on February 15, 1931 in a 1: 2 defeat in a friendly against Czechoslovakia; no further consideration for the selection of his country was made afterwards.
