Raymond Lebègue
Raymond Lebègue (born September 16, 1895 in Paris ; † November 21, 1984 ibid) was a French Romance studies and literary scholar.
life and work
Lebègue passed the Agrégation in 1919 and was a high school teacher in Brest and Clermont-Ferrand. From 1923 to 1941 he taught at the University of Rennes . In 1929 he completed his habilitation with the two theses La tragédie religieuse en France. Les débuts 1514–1573 (Paris 1929) and Le Mystère des Actes des Apôtres. Contribution à l'étude de l'humanisme et du protestantisme français au XVIe siècle (Paris 1929). From 1941 to 1965 he was full professor of French literature at the Sorbonne. From 1955 he was a member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres . In 1959 he founded the Institut d'Etudes théâtrales (IET) with Jacques Scherer . He was an honorary doctor of the University of Leuven.
Raymond Lebègue was the son of the Graecist and paleographer Henri Lebègue (1856–1938).
