Henri Lebègue

Henri Lebègue (born February 27, 1856 in Nogent-sur-Marne , †  October 19, 1938 in Paris ) was a French Graecist and paleographer .

Lebègue was born to Gustave Lebègue, head of a local educational institution, and Louise Pontier. His brother was the French historian Ernest Lebègue (1862-1943), his uncle the Brussels publisher and publicist Alphonse-Nicolas Lebègue (1862-1943). In 1884 he married Jeanne Lhuillier, with whom he had several children.

After working at the library of the Sorbonne from 1882 to 1888, Lebègue headed paleographic research at the École pratique des hautes études in Paris from November 1891 . His main interests were in the publication and translation of works by Greek authors dealing with the geography and history of Gaul . In January 1923 Lebègue was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor for his services .

Henri Lebègue is the father of the French Romance scholar and literary scholar Raymond Lebègue .
