Raymond Louis Specht (* 1924 probably in Adelaide , South Australia , Australia ) is Professor Emeritus of Botany at the University of Queensland . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Specht ".

Early years

Raymond Specht was already interested in plants as a boy. His German grandfather was a lover of flowers who published about it around 1900. When he went to Adelaide High School , he wanted to be a teacher of mathematics and physics, which is why he was employed from 1942 to 1946 for further training of teachers in these subjects at the Education Department of South Australia .

Curriculum Vitae

From 1943 to 1946 he studied at the University of Adelaide and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with honors. In 1948, at the age of 23, he was the second youngest participant in the American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land . In 1949 he completed his studies with a Master of Science degree and in 1953 he received his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Adelaide. In 1966 he was appointed professor of botany at the University of Queensland. He held this position until 1989. He was also visiting professor at the University of Leeds in Great Britain.

Specht was a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science , the Royal Society of Victoria , the Royal Society of South Australia , in which he was also appointed Chancellor and President, and other organizations such as the Scientific Advisory Committee of WWF Australia .

Raymond Specht has published numerous publications on botany, ecology and sustainability.
