Raymond Xuereb [ ʃuɜɾɜb ] (* 22. September 1952 ) is a former Maltese football - striker , who is also in midfield acted.

Career

Xuereb played for FC Floriana from 1969 to 1981 , with whom he won seven national titles and was Malta's top scorer three times and was Footballer of the Year in 1977. From 1982 to 1988 he played for Hamrun Spartans, where he also won seven titles.

After the stopover at Naxxar Lions, he dared to move abroad to HSC Montpellier in 1990 , with whom he won the French Cup in 1991 . In 1991/92 he played for Olympique Marseille , where he won the French championship . Then he ended his career.

Xuereb played for the Maltese national team from 1971 to 1985 , where he played 44 international matches and scored six goals. His first match (1: 1 against Algeria in Gżira) ended as well as his last (0: 0 against Czechoslovakia in Valletta ) surprisingly a draw.

Others

His brother George Xuereb (* 1953) came as a midfielder to 30 international matches and three goals between 1976 and 1985. At George's debut, the brothers played together for the first time in the national team, and at Hamrun Spartans they were part of the squad for six years. Unlike his brother, Georg Xuereb only played for Maltese clubs.
