Razorworks was a video game development studio based in Oxfordshire , United Kingdom . It was founded in August 1996 and has belonged to the video game manufacturer Empire Interactive since 2000 . The Razorworks studio was bought by the British developer Rebellion in July 2008 due to the poor financial situation of Empire Interactive .
history
The company first developed combat flight simulators and eventually shifted its focus to car racing games. The development studio has published a total of fourteen games on various platforms, including PC , PlayStation 2 , PSP , Xbox , Xbox 360 , Wii , Nintendo DS and for Sega Arcade machines.
Razorworks was acquired by Empire Interactive in 2000 .
The parent company Empire Interactive ran into serious financial difficulties in the late 2000s. On June 11, 2008, it was announced that Razorworks would be closing to reduce costs. On July 19, 2008, the UK developers of Rebellion announced that they had acquired the assets and most of the Razorworks employees. The team was integrated into Rebellion's own Oxford studio but no longer operated independently and branding was discontinued.
Empire Interactive's troubles continued, and on May 4, 2009 the company announced its own closure and liquidation.
