history

The choice of the name Re can be traced back to the Battle of Re in 1177, reported by Snorri Sturluson in the Heimskringlasaga . This report ends with a battle between Magnus Erlingsson and the black-and- white king Øystein Øysteinson. This battle is said to have taken place near the current church of Ramnes, according to the report.

As part of the municipal reform in Norway , Re was incorporated into Tønsberg on January 1, 2020 .
