The Reading Terminal is a building complex in the US city ​​of Philadelphia in the state of Pennsylvania . It is the former inner-city central station of the Reading Company , which operated as such from 1893 to 1984. The complex is located at the corner of 12th and Market Street and essentially consists of three parts, the former reception building (Reading Terminal Headhouse) , the former platform hall (Reading Terminal Trainshed) and the market halls below, the Reading Terminal Market.

The transport tasks were taken over in 1984 by the new underground Jefferson Station , which was built together with the Center City Commuter Connection . Since then, the suburban trains operated by SEPTA have been tied through on the former Reading routes under the city center to 30th Street Station .

Reading Terminal has been listed as a structure on the National Register of Historic Places since June 1972 . In December 1976, the building complex was awarded the status of a National Historic Landmark .
