Real Audiencia y Chancillería de Ciudad Real

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Real Audiencia y Chancillería de Ciudad Real was a judicial body called Real Audiencia for short , which was brought into being in 1494 by Isabelle I of Castile in order to fulfill the legal obligations in which only a few years earlier with the conquest of the last Muslim empire on the Iberian Peninsula, Granada, to share the enlarged empire of the Catholic Monarchs with the Real Academia established in Valladolid as early as 1371 . The Real Audiencia y Chancillería de Valladolid retained the jurisdiction of the areas in the north of the Tagus , while in Ciudad Real legal issues from the area south of the river were decided. The first president of the Audiencia was Iñigo Manrique Obispo de Córdoba, one of the signatories of the Treaty of Granada . The Audiencia de Ciudad Real was housed in a no longer existing building, the Palacio de los Marqueses de la Casa de Treviño, and brought Ciudad Real great prestige. But the facility did not stay in town for long; as early as 1500 it was decided to move the judicial organ to the newly created Real Chancillería de Granada , which was then implemented in 1505, albeit under protest from Ciudad Real.
