Reality
In translation studies , a realie or a real ( plural : realien or realia) denotes an element of everyday life, history, culture, politics, etc. of a certain people, country or place that has no equivalent in other peoples, in other countries or in other places.
Examples of Realia
- Names (e.g. Occident , Orient )
- political terms ( Red Army / Soviet Army)
- socio-historical realia ( turning neck , rope teams , wallpecker , red socks )
- Training courses and degrees (e.g. high school diploma , master craftsman )
- Designation of institutions and ranks
