The Realty Income Corporation is a real estate investment funds , in shopping malls in the United States , in Puerto Rico and in the United Kingdom invested. The company had the alternative name The Monthly Dividend Company (German: The monthly dividend company ) legally protected, as it is one of only a few companies that pays dividends to shareholders monthly and not as usual quarterly or annually.

history

Established in the 20th century

The Realty Income Corporation was founded in 1969 by William E. Clark and Evelyn J. Clark. Her first acquisition was a Taco Bell restaurant in the early 1970s. Since then, the company has usually rented its properties to business partners on a long-term basis.

Going public and making acquisitions in the 21st century

In 1994 the company was converted into a stock corporation by going public. In 2003, the company acquired 86 TBC Corporation retail locations for $ 135 million. In 2004, 112 Circle K stores were bought for $ 110.5 million. In 2006, the company acquired 144 properties leased to Buffets / Ryan's restaurants for $ 348 million.

In 2010, the company acquired several Napa Valley wineries for $ 269 million and 135 SuperAmerica convenience stores for $ 248 million. In 2011, 33 properties were acquired for $ 544 million.

In 2013, the company acquired the American Realty Capital Trust for $ 2.95 billion.

Inclusion in the S&P 500

In 2015 the company was included in the S&P 500 stock index . In 2018, Sumit Roy was appointed CEO of the company.

In 2019, the company completed a transaction for 12 properties in the UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's . This was the company's first property purchase outside of the United States.
