Act

In her research, Henderson investigated the phenomenon of why the productivity of the top ten percent of the most profitable companies grows substantially faster than that of the rest of the companies; their findings led them to the statement that the most productive companies (Engl. by a purpose purpose driven), characterized invest in long-term values, in turn, increase its value as a whole and ultimately thus be more productive. Henderson differentiates between two types of purpose . If, on the one hand, this is understood in the sense of creating a community spirit and a family atmosphere, Henderson could not prove any effect on productivity; On the other hand, she was able to demonstrate increased productivity for companies with a mission alignment , which repeatedly show their employees reasons for hard cooperation. According to this, it is not enough for companies to commit themselves to maximizing profits ; instead, due to the climate crisis and other challenges , they must also strive for sustainability and inclusion . Henderson fears an expansion of the climate crisis, an expansion of populism and extensive political and social destabilization if companies continue to stick to pure profit maximization.

Henderson published her findings in the book Reimagining Capitalism in a World on Fire and teaches them in her course Reimagining Capitalism: Business & the Big Problems at Harvard Business School.
