Francisco da Luz Rebelo Gonçalves
Francisco da Luz Rebelo Gonçalves (born November 15, 1907 in Santarém , † April 23, 1982 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese classical philologist , Romanist , Lusitanist and lexicographer.
Life
Gonçalves studied Classical Philology in Lisbon (graduated in 1930). He taught in Lisbon from 1930 to 1935, from 1935 to 1937 (as a professor) at the University of São Paulo and from 1937 to 1939 again in Lisbon. He was then from 1939 to 1951 professor at the University of Coimbra and from 1951 to 1970 at the University of Lisbon . In Coimbra he founded the Institute for Brazilian Studies and the Institute for Classical Studies . In 1966 he founded the Institute for Classical Studies in Lisbon .
Gonçalves was the founding editor of Humanitas (1947) and Euphrosyne magazines . Revista de filologia classica (1957), honorary doctorate from the University of Coimbra (1940) and holder of the Order of the Southern Cross (1940).
