Rebelution is an American reggae rock band from California . They are among the most successful bands in this genre with 9 number one positions in the US reaggae charts. In 2012 and 2014, respectively, they had two albums with Peace of Mind and Count Me In , which also entered the top 20 of the official album charts .

Band history

The band Rebelution was founded in 2004 in Isla Vista / Santa Barbara by five college students: the two singers and guitarists Eric Rachmany and Matt Velasquez, bassist Marley Williams, keyboardist Ron Carey and drummer Wesley Finley. At first they were mainly on the road as live musicians and only put together an EP with five songs in 2006, which had the band name as the title. In their fourth year they had put together their debut album Courage to Grow and immediately came to number 4 on the reggae charts in the USA. Despite the success, Velasquez then left the band. Almost a year later, album number 2, Bright Side of Life , followed, with which they topped the reggae charts for the first time and brought them to number 54 on the official Billboard 200 album charts. Two EPs with live recordings and electronica remixes of album songs followed.

They kept the concept with the subsequent release of live and remix versions for the next two albums. Peace of Mind and Count Me In were released every two years and still carry over the success. They came in at number 13 and 14 on the album charts. Another two years later, the fifth studio album, Falling into Place , appeared with the Jamaican Proteje as a guest. It earned them their sixth number one spot on the reggae charts and a 2017 Grammy Awards nomination for the best reggae album of the year.

The sixth album Free Rain was released in 2018.
