Receptaculum (mycology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cut through the witch's egg of the common stinkhorn , the as yet unstretched receptacle inside is clearly visible

The receptacle (alternative spelling also receptacle ) is the spongy, chambered, highly stretchable carrier of the gleba in the fruiting bodies of the stinkhorn-like (phallales). By the stretching of the receptaculum is peridium of Hexeneis blown open and to produce the now liquefied Gleba to the spread of spores by insects (Aasbesucher) exposed, which now starts "fragrances". The receptacle can be grid-like, branched or stem- like, in some species, such as the squid mushroom , it is noticeably pigmented, in the stinkhorn it is divided into a hat and a stem.
