history

The Hanover Lawyers and Notaries Association was originally founded on July 1, 1831 by 16 Hanoverian lawyers with the aim of "awakening and maintaining a common spirit among lawyers geared to legality and integrity and promoting scientific and practical training." Johann Hermann Detmold , for example, was a member in the 1840s . Another important member of the association was Adolf Wilhelm Leonhardt , who had worked as a consultant in the Hanoverian Ministry of Justice from 1848 and was significantly involved in judicial legislation from 1849 to 1953 that largely took into account the interests of lawyers.

After the general introduction of the term “lawyer”, the members decided to rename their association accordingly.

At the time of National Socialism , the Hanover Bar Association was “purged”, and Jewish members were expelled from the association and excluded. In the sense of conformity , the Lawyers' Association was initially only converted into a local group of the so-called National Socialist Legal Guards Association; the Führer principle was finally introduced with the Reich Lawyers' Act of February 21, 1936.

Only a few weeks after the end of the Second World War , the “Rechtsanwaltsverein Hannover eV” was initially provisionally re-established on July 25, 1945, with the significant participation of the Jewish lawyer Horst Egon Berkowitz , before the establishment of the association was confirmed by the British military government on December 13, 1945. Horst also worked from 1945 to 1973. E. Berkowitz as deputy chairman of the association.
