Rede Ferroviária de Alta Velocidade, SA (RAVE), in German "high-speed network", was a Portuguese project company whose task it was to oversee the planning and construction of a standard-gauge high - speed network in Portugal . The entire project was suspended by the Portuguese government for the time being in March 2012 due to the budget situation and the project company was incorporated into the merged Infraestruturas de Portugal in 2014 .

history

The state-run company was founded in 2000 on the basis of decreto-lei n ° 323-H / 2000 of December 19th. The company's capital was 2.5 million euros, with the Portuguese state holding 60 percent and the state infrastructure operator REFER with 40 percent. The chairman of the board ( presidente ) of RAVE was currently Luís Filipe Pardal , who is also chairman of the board of the state infrastructure operator REFER .

After the Portuguese-Spanish conference in 2003 in the port city of Figueira da Foz , the two countries agreed to build a Portuguese high-speed network with standard gauge, so that direct trains between the two neighboring countries would be possible. After the Portuguese-Spanish conference in Salamanca in 2005 , both governments decided to give the Lisbon - Évora - Badajoz - Madrid route the highest priority.

The entire project was temporarily discontinued by the Portuguese government in March 2012 due to the budget situation and the project company was incorporated into the merged Infraestruturas de Portugal in 2014 . The construction of the Lisbon – Madrid high-speed line began in a significantly different form, with a focus on freight transport.
