history

The company was founded by Klaus E. Oldendorff (1933–2003), the son of the Lübeck shipowner Egon Oldendorff . Klaus Oldendorff left his parents' business in 1964 and founded the shipping company "Nord" Klaus E. Oldendorff in Hamburg. On December 12, 1964, the new company in Kiel took over its first ship, the Bockholm with a load capacity of 1,417 tons, renamed it Nordholm and opened its office in Hamburg the following day. The name Nord originated from the Nordische Dampfer Reederei , which was founded in 1922 by Egon Oldendorff as a liner service between Lübeck and Scandinavia, but was discontinued after 1929 in the course of the global economic crisis.

In 1967 the shipping company Nord was one of the founding members of the Trampko tramp shipping association . The shipping company also commissioned the first series of new buildings through this, the Trampko multi-purpose freighters Nordwelle , Nordwoge , Nordstrand and Nordkap , which were delivered in 1969 and 1970 . In the mid-1970s, the four Trampko-Bulkers Nordmark , Nordfels , Nordheim and Nordholm followed from Japan .

During the oil and shipping crisis of the 1980s, the headquarters of the shipping company "Nord" was relocated to Limassol in 1986, with the Hamburg branch being retained. In 2005 the Oldendorff family returned to Hamburg, as the introduction of the tonnage tax had made Germany an attractive location again. In 2014 a branch for the tanker fleet was established in Amsterdam. Today's Reederei Nord Group consists of three legally separate parts, Reederei Nord GmbH in Hamburg, which operates a fleet of around 30 container ships and around 16 bulk carriers, and Reederei Nord BV in Amsterdam, which has 15 oil and chemical tankers of various sizes in service Has. The shipping company Nord Limited in Limassol acts as a service provider for sea personnel and construction supervision.

On January 30, 2011, the cargo ship MS Nordlake collided with the Indian frigate INS Vindhyagiri (F42) in the port of Mumbai , which then had to be scrapped.
