The Reformed Church Binningen (also: St. Margarethen Church ) is a church building in Binningen near Basel , Switzerland .

history

The church is located on the St. Margaret -Hügel at the site of a former beguines - monastery . Predecessor churches from the 9th – 11th centuries could Century can be proven. The church was enlarged in the 14th century. After the Reformation , the monastery was converted into an estate in the 17th century .

Today's church was built by Jakob Meyer in 1673 and, besides the Wintersingen church, is the only example of an angular hook church in Switzerland.

The pastor Jonas Breitenstein , who was also active as a writer, worked here between 1852 and 1870 , and a plaque by the church commemorates him.

The simple baroque church with a turret is attached to the buildings of the estate. She has two ships at right angles to each other . The pulpit , positioned centrally in the corner of the nave, dates from the construction period. The furnishings also include stalls and epitaphs from the 18th century. The galleries were built in 1721. Various coats of arms from the 17th century are let into the windows .
