Ebnat Church

The Reformed Church Ebnat is a baroque country church designed by the builder Hans Ulrich Grubenmann in the Toggenburg community of Ebnat-Kappel .

Building history

Ebnat broke away from the Wattwil parish in 1761 and planned to build its own church building. The church was built in 1762 by the Teufen master builder Johann Ulrich Grubenmann. As with all of his church buildings, the well-known bridge builder designed the roof structure of the church in the form of a sophisticated hanging structure . The church was completed in just six months and consecrated on October 10, 1762.

building

Similar to the Reformed Church of Oberrieden, which was completed the year before, the church has a front tower with a pointed spire and curved eyelashes for the dials. The hall church has a three-sided closure and is illuminated by arched windows. Inside are Rococo - stucco obtained from the construction remained, including a cartridge with the arms of the builder Grubenmann. The glass paintings by an unknown artist from 1903 were supplemented by glass paintings by Christoph Stooss in 1993 . In the gallery is an organ built in 1994 by the company Späth Orgelbau AG (Rapperswil) with 19 stops , divided into two manuals and a pedal.
