Späth Orgelbau AG is a Swiss organ building company that was founded in Rapperswil in 1909 . It was created as a branch of a company that was founded in Ennetach in 1862 and has been based in Rüti ZH since 2011 .

History of the company

The history of the family business goes back to Alois Späth (1825–1876), who took over the workshop of the organ builder Vitus Klingler in 1862. His son Franz Xaver Späth (1859–1940) reopened the workshop in Ennetach (Germany), which had been closed when his father died, in 1882. When it merged with his brother Albert (1866–1948) in 1894, the company was renamed Gebr. Späth Orgelbau . The third son Hermann Späth (1867–1917) continued the workshop from 1896 until his death in 1917.

The brothers Emil and Hubert Späth, nephews of Franz Xaver, acquired the company from Heinrich Spaich in Rapperswil in 1909. Their sons Joseph, Eugen and Emil took over the company in the 1940s. In the third generation, Hans and Carmen Späth have been running the company since 1974. In 1981 the company was converted into a stock corporation . When Hans Späth retired in 2011, his wife became the sole owner of the company. In the course of this, the company was downsized and relocated to Rüti ZH. Andreas Zwingli has been running the company since 2016.

The writer Gerold Späth initially learned organ building in his father's company until 1975.

In addition to new organs, restorations are also carried out. In recent years, Späth Orgelbau AG has been increasingly active internationally.
