Reformed Church Hundwil
The Reformed Church Hundwil is a Reformed country church in Hundwil in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden , Switzerland .
history
The core of the church is late Romanesque and was probably built in the 13th century. In the late Middle Ages , the church was redesigned in the Gothic style and provided with tracery windows and frescoes , which are now considered to be the oldest (fragmentary) preserved paintings in the canton. Around 1750 the church was redesigned again by Jakob and Johann Ulrich Grubenmann . In 1894 the tower was rebuilt according to plans by the architect August Hardegger . The large neo-Gothic sound window is striking .
Furnishing
Inside the church there is an unusual organ - gallery above a kind of apse , in front of which is the baptismal font . The inventory includes a late Gothic chalice, which is used today as the sacrament chalice.
Surroundings
In the uneven years up to 1997, the Ausserrhoder Landsgemeinde took place on the meadow in front of the main entrance to the church .
