Location of the former mill

The Regensteinmühle was a water-powered grinding and oil mill below Regenstein Castle north of the town of Blankenburg (Harz) in the Harz district ( Saxony-Anhalt ).

History and description

The mill was built in the first half of the 12th century to supply the castle and the upstream Nienrode works. The impact water for the mill wheels was fed in by means of a nearly two kilometer long mill ditch from the Goldbach below the Mönchemühleteich , which was exposed over a length of around 500 m between 1988 and 1991.

The Regensteinmühle was in operation until the end of the Middle Ages and then increasingly decayed. During the Seven Years' War in 1758, for strategic reasons, the remnants of the mill located directly on the border between Braunschweig and Prussia were removed by the Prussian side. Around 1990 the two mill wheels were reconstructed. In 2013, the mill ditch, the lower waterwheel and the information boards provided were reconstructed through a measure financed by Koba at VHS Bildungswerk GmbH in Blankenburg.

hike

The former mill is included as No. 82 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin. A few meters from the reconstructed mill wheels is a refuge.
