The Regina is a former shipyard tug and is now a technical monument on the Maritime Mile in the Vegesack City Garden in Vegesack .
history
The Regina was built in 1965/66 with the construction number 900 on the Bremer Vulkan for personal use. It was used to fish larger pieces of wood and chains from the Weser after the launch. The next task was to move the shipyard's own floating crane . Occasionally the Regina was also used for company excursions and business trips.
As a result of serious machine damage, it was taken out of service in 1987, as the operational requirements had changed in the meantime after a fundamental modernization of the shipyard. In 1988, the Bremer Vulkan transferred the tug to the MTV Nautilus association , which had been founded the year before, and which over the next two years completely restored it and converted it into a technical monument.
At the end of 1990 the Regina was erected as a technical monument on the Weser promenade in Bremen-Vegesack with the help of the Athlet II floating crane . From 2003 to 2008 the tug was used by the MTV youth group as a club house, until they moved to the club's new nautilus house.
Since September 2017, the Regina has been used by members of the German Amateur Radio Club eV (DARC, local association I14) as a club radio station. The Vegesack radio amateurs , in cooperation with the MTV Nautilus, have converted the former workshop room of the tugboat into a radio room from which they can use various analog and digital modes of operation worldwide (on shortwave, but also e.g. in 2 m and 70 cm tape). The club station has the call sign DK0MTR (the suffix MTR of the call sign stands for "Maritime Tradition Regina").
From spring to autumn, the Regina is open to the public every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until dusk falls). The visitors can then inspect the tractor from inside and outside free of charge and, if interested, have the radio system demonstrated.
