Reginald Innes Pocock

Reginald Innes Pocock (born March 4, 1863 in Clifton , Bristol , † August 9, 1947 in London ) was a British zoologist and arachnologist .

Live and act

Pocock studied zoology under Professors Conwy Lloyd Morgan (1852-1936) and William Johnson Sollas (1849-1936) at the University College of Bristol . In 1885 he became an assistant at the Natural History Museum in London. He was responsible for the collections of tarantulas (Theraphosidae) and millipedes (Myriapoda). From 1904 until his retirement in 1923 he was director of the London Zoo . Pocock then worked as a volunteer scientist in the mammalian department at the Natural History Museum.

On July 1, 1889, he married Constance Osborne. They had five children together; however, the first four, a daughter and three sons, died in childhood. Little is known about the fourth son, Constantine Innes Pocock.

On May 4, 1911, Pocock became a member ("Fellow") of the Royal Society .
