The Aeroporto Presidente Itamar Franco , ( IATA : IZA , ICAO : SBZM ), commonly known as regional airport as Zona Mata called, a Brazilian airport which is Juiz de Fora and the region Zona da Mata Mineira (Brazil) in the municipality Goianá served. Since March 8, 2012, the airport has been named after Itamar Augusto Cautiero Franco , the 33rd President of Brazil. It is operated by the Socicam company. It has the second longest runway in Minas Gerais with a length of 2,525 m and a width of 45 m.

history

Construction of the airport was completed in 2007, but commercial operations did not begin until August 23, 2011.

In March 2011, Infraero stopped managing the airport and Multiterminais Alfandegados do Brasil became the new administrator.

In January 2015, the government of Minas Gerais handed over the management of the airport to Concessionária do Aeroporto da Zona da Mata SA, which consists of Socicam Administração, Projetos e Representações Ltda. and Companhia Brasileira de Comércio Exterior (CBCE).

Connection

The airport is 35 km from downtown Juiz de Fora, 64 km from downtown Ubá and 75 km from downtown Cataguase.

In 2020, there were two independent bus companies offering a shuttle service to the airport that departs from the city of Juiz de Fora: Viação José Maria Rodrigues and Viação Bassamar. The airport also has an independent taxi company called Companhia de Táxi Aeroporto Zona da Mata.
