COVID-19 pandemic in Iraq

The COVID-19 pandemic occurs in Iraq since February 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic , which took place in December 2019 in China originated. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

On February 22, 2020, the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in Iraq. This case first appeared in the WHO situation reports on February 25, 2020. More than 100 infected people were reported on March 14, 2020, more than 1,000 on April 5. There were over 2,000 infected on April 28, more than 3,000 on May 12 and more than 4,000 on May 22. The first deaths were recorded on March 4th, 50 on March 31st, over 100 on May 4th, and over 150 on May 22nd.

After curfews were imposed, domestic violence rose sharply across the country, according to the head of the Iraqi police force.
