The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is part of the ongoing 2019 global pandemic of Coronavirus Disease ( COVID-19 ), a novel infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 is on March 2, 2020 when a dance person and her mother were infected by a Japanese citizen. From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic .

The first three COVID-19 related deaths in Indonesia were confirmed on March 13, 2020, one of them in Solo , Central Java . The other two were not disclosed.

Lockdown

A number of cities have imposed lockdowns, including the city of Tegal in Central Java and the province of Papua on March 28.

Indonesia AirAsia is suspending all flights from April 1st to April 21st for domestic flights and from May 17th for international flights.

The state-owned railway company Kereta Api Indonesia is canceling 28 routes from Jakarta for the month of April, and Jokowi is ordering far-reaching restrictions in connection with civil emergency measures. President Joko Widodo declared the health emergency and called on police to enforce a comprehensive social distancing policy on March 31.

The planned meeting of the Indonesian Wikipedia (together with other editions in Indonesian languages such as the Javanese Wikipedia, the Sundanese Wikipedia, the Minangkabau Wikipedia etc.) with the name "WikiNusantara" (similar to Wikimania, but on a national level) planned in Padang at the end of March will be cancelled.

By April 9, the pandemic had spread to all provinces in Indonesia after Gorontalo confirmed its first case.

The Mudik called traditional homecoming of workers from the cities to their families in the country for joint Lebaran , the Indonesian Eid al-Fitr, has been banned by the government.

Travel restrictions

Indonesia banned all flights to and from mainland China from February 5. The government also stopped issuing a free visa and a visa for Chinese nationals on arrival. Those who have lived or stayed in mainland China in the past 14 days are not allowed to enter or travel through Indonesia. Indonesians are discouraged from traveling to China.

From March 8, travel restrictions were extended to Daejeon and Gyeongsangbuk-do in the regions of South Korea, Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna in Italy and Tehran and Qom in Iran. Visitors with a history of travel within these countries, but outside the above-mentioned regions, must present a valid health certificate for all transports to Indonesia upon check-in. Despite the restriction on travelers from South Korea, Indonesia still allows flights from South Korea.

On March 14, the Indonesian government declared the coronavirus outbreak in Indonesia a national disaster, and on March 15, Joko Widodo urged all Indonesians to practice what epidemiologists call social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country to slow down.

Indonesia bans all travelers from April 2, 2020.

Jakarta

On March 30th, Jokowi refuses to lock Jakarta . Bus routes between Jakarta and other cities and provinces remain open after a plan to temporarily suspend intercity and interprovincial bus (AKAP) operations in Greater Jakarta is lifted.

On March 16, MRT Jakarta, LRT and Transjakarta began reducing the number of journeys, corridors and timetables (6:00 am to 6:00 pm). However, this policy has been withdrawn due to the long queues at many bus and train stations in the morning. Jakarta's application for exit restrictions was approved by the Ministry of Health on April 7 and is expected to come into effect on April 10 for an initial two weeks.
