The COVID-19 pandemic has been occurring in Ghana since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that began in China in December 2019. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Actions and course

On March 12, 2020, the first two COVID-19 cases in Ghana were announced by Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu. Both people returned to Ghana from Norway and Turkey.

From March 17, travelers from countries with more than 200 corona cases were no longer allowed to enter Ghana.

Kotoka International Airport Accra has been closed to international air traffic since March 22nd. The only exceptions are for emergency, rescue and cargo flights. The block was initially in effect until April 19, 2020 and was then extended until May 31, 2020.

As of April 15, the COVID-19 cases in Ghana have risen to 641. 83 of the infected people in Ghana have recovered.
