The COVID-19 pandemic occurs in Benin since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic , which took place in December 2019 in China originated. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

On March 16, 2020, the country's first COVID-19 infection was confirmed in Porto-Novo, the capital of Benin. This case first appeared in the WHO situation report on March 17, 2020. The second confirmed case was reported three days after the first case. The capital stopped various international flights and people who came into the country by air were quarantined for 14 days as a precaution. In addition, people in Benin were advised to wear masks and only leave the house when necessary.

The country's first COVID-19-related death appeared in the WHO Situation Report for the first time on April 7, 2020. As of April 14, 2020, the WHO had confirmed 35 COVID-19 infections and one COVID-19-related death in Benin.
