Domestic politics

Despite the first cases of an incipient corona epidemic, elections for a new constitution and a new parliament took place in Guinea on March 22, 2020. The current constitution only allows a president two terms of office. Critics accuse President Alpha Condé of seeking a third term after the election. The opposition protested for months before the elections, with more than 30 people killed in protests since October 2019. It is therefore assumed that after the elections in Guinea there could be demonstrations, protest marches or general strikes, as well as increased roadblocks, some of which may be illegal.

activities

Since March 27, 2020, Guinea declared a state of emergency with restrictions on public life. Journeys from the capital Conakry to the interior of the country are prohibited , exceptions are regulated by the Ministry of Health. There is a nationwide curfew from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The borders and airports are closed, except for the transport of goods.

The wearing of nose face masks was made compulsory by order of Alpha Condé from April 18, 2020 and he called on all entrepreneurs and ministries to equip their staff with masks. Those found without a mask would face a fine of $ 3 and the cost of a mask would be less than 25 cents.
