COVID-19 pandemic in Swaziland

The COVID-19 pandemic occurs in Eswatini since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic , which took place in December 2019 in China originated. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

By March 11, 2020, two suspected cases were tested. A woman who was returning from Europe and a second woman who had received visitors from Germany.

On March 14, 2020, the first COVID-19 infection was confirmed in Swaziland. It was a woman who returned from the United States in late February and then traveled to Lesotho before returning to Swaziland and being quarantined after the positive test result. This case first appeared in the WHO situation report on March 15, 2020.

On March 24, 2020, the Ministry of Health announced a fifth confirmed case. It was a man who had traveled to the United States earlier that month and tested positive on his return.

On March 26, 2020, three infected people were known who had previously been in South Africa. The Ministry of Health recommended compliance with hygiene rules and advised those infected against attending events and public spaces.

By April 15, 2020, 15 COVID-19 infections had been confirmed in Swaziland by the WHO.
