COVID-19 pandemic in Sudan

The COVID-19 pandemic occurs in the Sudan since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic , which took place in December 2019 in China originated. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

On March 13, 2020, the first COVID-19 infection was posthumously confirmed in a man in Khartoum and at the same time the first death in Sudan. It was a man who died on March 12, 2020 and had visited the United Arab Emirates in the first week of March. This case first appeared in the WHO situation report on March 14, 2020.

Sudan stopped issuing visas and flight permits to eight countries, including Italy and neighboring Egypt, fearing a coronavirus outbreak.

As of March 31, 2020, Sudan reported seven COVID cases. From March 26, 2020, nationwide bus connections and all flight connections on March 31, 2020, and national borders were closed. Isolation wards have been set up for suspected cases.

The first COVID-19-related death in the country occurred on March 12, 2020 (confirmed posthumously on March 13) and first appeared in the WHO situation report on March 16. As of April 15, 2020, the WHO had confirmed 32 COVID-19 infections and five COVID-19-related deaths in Sudan.
