The COVID-19 pandemic has been occurring in Vatican City since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that began in Wuhan , Hubei Province , People's Republic of China in December 2019 . The disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group . The disease belongs to the group of respiratory diseases .
