COVID-19 pandemic in Paraguay
The COVID-19 pandemic is occurring in Paraguay as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that began in China in December 2019. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

The first case occurred in Asunción on March 7, 2020 .
As of March 24, 2020, there were a total of 22 confirmed cases and one fatality in Paraguay. Paraguay closed its borders and airports. Interior Minister Euclides Acevedo declared: "The right to life is above any other right."
Paraguay had 129 confirmed infections and 6 deaths as of April 9, 2020. In addition to a plan to promote local agriculture, an entry and exit ban was decided for the capital Asunción for Easter week . On April 8, President Mario Abdo Benítez announced that he would extend the exit restrictions for citizens of the country until April 19. Exceptions are, for example, the purchase of groceries or medicines.
On April 12, 2020, 134 sick people, 6 dead and 22 recovered people were reported. As of July 20, 2020, 1,044 infections and 33 deaths were reported to the WHO.
