COVID-19 pandemic in Chad

The COVID-19 pandemic occurs in Chad since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic , which took place in December 2019 in China originated. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

On March 19, 2020, Chadian authorities confirmed the first COVID-19 infection in the country. It was a passenger who had flown in from Douala. This case first appeared in the WHO situation report on March 20, 2020.

On March 26, Chadian authorities reported two more positive cases, after three previously reported. Two more COVID-19 cases were reported on March 30th. Until then, it was always infected people who came to Chad from abroad. As a preventive measure, the government has canceled all flights into the country, with the exception of cargo flights.

On April 6, Chad recorded its first case of local contagion. Previously, all infected people had entered from abroad.

As of April 14, 2020, the WHO had confirmed 23 COVID-19 infections in Chad.
