COVID-19 pandemic in Sierra Leone

The COVID-19 pandemic occurs in Sierra Leone since the end of March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic , which took place in December 2019 in China originated. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

On March 25, 2020, before the country's first case was confirmed, the government declared a state of emergency in the country for 12 months.

On March 31, 2020, the President of Sierra Leone confirmed the first COVID-19 disease in the country. It was a man who had arrived from France on March 16 and has since been isolated. This case first appeared in the WHO situation report on April 1, 2020.

As a result, entry into the country was restricted and religious gatherings were banned. The government announced a three-day curfew after a second incident. This began in the night of April 4th to 5th. However, doctors demanded a period of 14 days.

The World Bank announced a $ 7.5 million grant in early April 2020 to help Sierra Leone cope with the pandemic.

The first COVID-19-related death in the country occurred on April 23, 2020. This fatality also appeared for the first time in the WHO Situation Report on April 23, 2020. As of April 25, 2020, the WHO had confirmed 82 COVID-19 cases and three COVID-19-related deaths in Sierra Leone.
