COVID-19 pandemic in Malta
The COVID-19 pandemic is occurring in Malta as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that started in China in December 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic .

On March 7, 2020, the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in Malta. As of March 26, 2020, 134 cases and two people cured had been reported in Malta. 33 of the sick were hospitalized, a 61-year-old man was in the intensive care unit, but was on the mend.
On April 8, 2020 there was the first death in connection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, another death occurred on April 9, 2020. The third death occurred on April 11, and a fourth on April 25, 2020 and on May 5, 2020 the fifth death.
