Konrad Bittner

Konrad Bittner (born April 7, 1890 in Brodek u Konice ; † January 3, 1967 in Bochum ) was a German Slavist and university professor .

Life

Bittner studied Slavic and Classical Philology at the University of Vienna . After graduating as Dr. phil. ( Faust in Bohemian folk literature with special emphasis on puppetry ) In 1913 at the University of Vienna he took part in the First World War from 1914 to 1918 . He then worked as a high school teacher in Brno and Prague . From 1930 to 1937 he co-edited the quarterly Germano-slawika. He completed his habilitation in 1931 at the University of Prague .

In November 1938 Bittner became a member of the NSDAP . From 1939 to 1940 he was an adjunct professor at the University of Prague. From 1940 to 1944 he was an associate professor at the University of Poznan and from 1944 to 1945 a full professor at the University of Poznan .

From 1947 to 1955 he was a teacher in Bochum and Schleswig. From 1955 to 1961 he worked as a professor at the University of Mainz . In 1961, according to Article 131 of the Basic Law in 1961, he was granted the legal status of a full professor at the University of Mainz. Until his retirement he was President of the German Pestalozzi Society.
