The COVID-19 pandemic has not appeared in the Comoros for a long time. On April 30, 2020, the first COVID-19 case was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The COVID-19 pandemic started in China in December 2019. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

As of April 16, 2020, no COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Comoros. However, on April 15, 2020, a person traveling to Mayotte from the Comoros tested positive for COVID-19 there. Geographically, Mayotte belongs to the Comoros archipelago , but it is an overseas department and a region of France . The first case was reported on April 30th.

Incoming travelers will be quarantined for 14 days after their arrival in the Comoros. To prevent the virus from spreading, the government has canceled all incoming flights and banned large gatherings.
