COVID-19 pandemic in South Ossetia
The COVID-19 pandemic has been occurring in South Ossetia since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that started in China in December 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic .

The first three Covid-19 cases occurred in South Ossetia on May 6, 2020. All contact persons, including the treating doctors, have been quarantined .
Government action
On March 20, 2020, all schools in the country were closed. Returning residents of South Ossetia will be quarantined . The borders between Russia and South Ossetia and Georgia and South Ossetia have been closed since April 5, 2020 . A two-week quarantine is mandatory for entry. Vehicles are disinfected at the borders. In South Ossetia there is only one laboratory for Covid-19 tests in limited numbers and an intensive care unit with 26 ventilators.
